How we suggest office areas

  1. STEP 01

    We place your postcode

    In one of about 7,000 small areas of England and Wales (ONS middle-layer super output areas), from the postcode's sector.
  2. STEP 02

    We count the offices around it

    From the Valuation Office's count of rated office premises in every area, and the rateable value per m² it puts on them.
  3. STEP 03

    We suggest where to look

    The areas nearby with the most offices, for choice, and those with plenty of offices at a lower rateable value than the council's average.

QUESTIONS

Common questions

Why not a list of offices for sale or to let?
No official source lists the offices on the market in England or Scotland, and the government's business rates data may only be used for business rates. So we show where the offices are and how their values compare, from official statistics, and link to the services that do list premises.
Is rateable value the rent I will pay?
No. It is the Valuation Office's estimate of a year's open-market rent on a past valuation date, without service charges or VAT. It is good for comparing areas; ask agents for asking rents and prices.
Does it cover Scotland and Northern Ireland?
The small-area office figures are published for England and Wales only. For a Scottish or Northern Irish postcode we link to the official services there instead.
